Salah Debouz, one of the lawyers who constitute the defense of Algerian blogger Merzouk Touati sentenced to seven years in prison, said Friday, via his facebook page, that the US Senator Democratic Dick Durbin sent an official letter to the Algerian authorities to express his concern about the situation of his client.
"We had confirmation that Senator Dick Durbin sent an official letter to the Algerian authorities to inform them of his concern about the case of Touati Merzoug," writes the lawyer.
The Béjaïa criminal court sentenced blogger Merzoug Touati to a term of imprisonment of 7 years, recalling a sentence of 10 years in the first instance and a fine of 50,000 dinars. .
Merzoug Touati was prosecuted for "intelligence with foreigners" and "incitement to unarmed assembly in public squares".
