The first international festival of gastronomy will be held from 21 to 24 November in Oran, the official news agency reported.
A total of 30 wilayas and six foreign countries, namely Mali, Turkey, Tunisia, Morocco, Egypt and Syria have confirmed their participation in this first edition of the international festival of gastronomy which will be marked by the holding of several culinary competitions, said Fouzi Baïche during a press conference, announcing that this international meeting coinciding with the celebration of the Mawlid Ennabaoui, promises "many surprises."
Forty candidates including 34 Algerians and 6 foreigners take part in these culinary competitions that will compete with the best in bakery, pastry-chocolate, traditional cakes and traditional and universal dishes, explained the organizers, adding that these competitors will be put to use before a jury composed of national and foreign distinguished chefs.
These include, among others, the ambassador of Arab chefs (2017-2018), Mustapha Bensaadi and the ambassador of Algerian cuisine, Mokhtaria Rezki and other chefs of international standing, were we announced the same source, stressing that the objective of this event is to highlight the Algerian culinary art.
The program of the international festival of gastronomy includes training sessions for the benefit of young people to teach them the rich Algerian culinary art and various, as well as the universal cuisine, according to the organizers, announcing that the laureates will benefit from training abroad which will be supported by some sponsors.
On the menu of this event, tasting sessions are prominently featured, the organizers also assured.
The representative of the Tourism and Handicrafts Directorate of the province of Oran, Lies Hadjidj, said that this appointment is timely to "highlight our culinary heritage and only strengthen the destination 'Algeria, through the promotion of the tourism sector in Oran, a welcoming city that actively prepares the Mediterranean Games 2021'.
