Algeria – The High Representative of the African Union Ramtane Lamamra today congratulated the new President of the Republic of Madagascar, following the resignation of Hery Rajaonarimampianina, in accordance with the Malagasy Constitution.
The President of the Malagasy Senate, Rivo Rakotovao, has today taken over the Presidency of the Republic of Madagascar, following the announcement of the resignation of President Hery, who is seeking a new term of office.
The former Algerian Minister of Foreign Affairs has been mediating in the Big Island since last April. This early September, Ramtane Lamamra was visiting Madagascar, where he met several officials of this African country.
High Representative of the African Union, Ramtane Lamamra's mission is to accompany the democratic process in Madagascar, through a pluralist presidential election. To run for a new term, the now ex-President Hery Rajaonarimampianina had to resign, in accordance with the Constitution. This resignation demanded aims in particular to prevent the president from using the means of the state to campaign.
