The fear of Cholera causes a shortage of mineral water

Algeria – The specter of Cholera has prompted many Algerians to turn off tap water despite not being involved, to resort to the purchase of mineral water.

Many Algerian citizens think that the Cholera that has spread in several wilayas of the country including Blida, Algiers and Bouira has a direct link with tap water. This has led them to buy bottles of mineral water which have become increasingly scarce, because of the high demand, but also the closure of a large number of businesses because of Aid El Adha.

During a tour of the capital's districts, we noticed that mineral water bottles are selling like hotcakes in Algiers and around.

However, the less affluent families preferred to boil tap water for drinking and to add a drop of bleach to prevent the contagious Cholera outbreak.
