ADDIS-ABEBA- African Union hailed on Saturday the UN Security Council draft resolution on the financing of peace support operations decided by the AU and authorized by the UN Security Council.
The draft resolution has been proposed by three African States currently serving on the Security Council, namely Côte d'Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea and Ethiopia.
"This important resolution for Africa represents a long-standing common African position aimed at enhancing the predictability and sustainability of the AU's peace support operations, in the framework of the Chapter. VIII of the UN Charter and authorized by the UN Security Council, "the AU said in a statement.
The AU Peace and Security Council noted that the draft resolution is timely and balanced and also reflects the general consensus within the UN Security Council and elsewhere, the statement added.
