SYDNEY- The Palestinian leadership has described Australia's decision as "irresponsible" as "irresponsible" consider El Quds-West as the capital of Israel, in violation of international law.
"The final status of the whole of El Qods must be determined during negotiations," Saeb Arekat, head of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), said in a statement on Saturday.
This decision is "motivated by petty questions of domestic politics that lead to policies that go against peace and security in the world," he said.
Under-Secretary-General of the Arab League for Palestinian Affairs and Occupied Territories, Saeed Abu Ali, also "strongly denounced" Canberra's new position, saying it constitutes "a flagrant alignment with politics Israeli occupation and encouragement to continue its continued aggression "against the Palestinian people.
Australia announced on Saturday that it recognized El Quds-West as the capital of Israel, stating that the relocation of its diplomatic mission "would wait for the conclusion of a peace agreement between Israelis and Palestinians."
Mr.Morrison had already mentioned in October, before a crucial by-election for his narrow majority, this change of direction in Australian foreign policy. But he had delayed after a political outcry in Australia.
"This is a totally risky decision that brings no benefit" and puts Australia "out of step" with the international community, said a senior Labor official, Penny Wong, in a statement.
Palestinian ambassador to Australia Izzat Abdulhadi said on Friday that the Palestinian government intended to call Arab and Muslim countries to "withdraw their ambassadors" and "take economic boycott measures."
