Polisario calls for speeding up the implementation of Security Council Resolution 2440

CHAHID EL HAFED – The Polisario Front has put forward the day after its meeting with Morocco in the framework of the round table held in Geneva, the firm will and unshakeable determination of the Saharawi people in their struggle for freedom and independence, while calling for speeding up the implementation of Security Council Resolution 2440 to guarantee to the Saharawi people their right to self-determination.

In this context, the Permanent Bureau (BP) of the National Secretariat of the Polisario Front held a meeting on Sunday chaired by Brahim Ghali, President of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), during which several points related to the cause Saharawi were examined, including the Geneva meeting initiated by the personal envoy of the SG of the UN, Horst Köhler.

The BP opened its meeting with a tribute to the children of the Saharawi people who are resisting peacefully in the occupied territories, in southern Morocco and at the university level and those who took part in the demonstration on 4 December in Laayoune, Smara and Boudjedour occupied, defying the embargo imposed by the Moroccan occupation.

He condemned, in this regard, "the barbaric intervention of the Moroccan occupation forces that spared neither women nor men nor children", calling, at the same time, the UN to assume its responsibilities and intervene urgently to put an end to the blatant violations committed by Morocco against the Sahrawi civilians.

The Bureau urged the UN to work to "stop the plunder of Saharawi natural resources, expose the fate of the missing and release political prisoners who languish in Moroccan jails, like the group of Gdeim Izik" .

On this occasion, the Polisario Front hailed the Saharawi Liberation Army which "fulfills its noble missions, namely the defense of the sovereignty of the country and the protection of the liberated territories against the dangers and threats lurking in the region. . "

The permanent office highlighted the mobilization of the Saharawi people "against the plots laid by the enemy and his willingness to sacrifice himself further until the completion of the sovereignty of the Saharawi state through the whole of national territory ".

With regard to the participation of the Saharawi delegation in the Geneva negotiations, last Wednesday and Thursday, the emphasis was placed at this meeting on the necessary acceleration of the implementation of the provisions of the resolution 2440 of the Security Council, through the resumption of direct negotiations in good faith and without preconditions between Morocco and the Polisario Front, the only legitimate representative of the Saharawi people.

The Permanent Bureau reiterated, for this purpose, the commitment of the Polisario to support the United Nations efforts for decolonization in Western Sahara, the last colony of Africa, by allowing the Saharawi people to exercise their inalienable right self-determination and independence, in accordance with the UN Charter and Resolutions.

The judgment of the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU), issued on 3 December, states that no authority may take decisions to authorize or provide legal certainty for planes who would like to transit through the Saharawi territory, believing that this judgment comes in support of the previous judgments of the same court which affirm without any hesitation that Western Sahara and Morocco are two separate and distinct territories.

The Polisario Front strongly condemned, in the same sense, the deplorable attempts by "certain known parties in the EU to sign agreements with the Moroccan Kingdom, including some occupied territories of Western Sahara, and this in flagrant violation of the provisions of these judgments and of international human rights ".

The meeting also touched on President Brahim Ghali's last visit to Mexico and Cuba, where he praised the positions of support, solidarity and support expressed at high level in both countries. which reflects the deep and solid relations of friendship and cooperation between these two countries and SADR.

The participants in this meeting welcomed, finally, the position occupied by the Saharawi cause at the international conference of BRICS parties and the African Summit on Peace, two events hosted by South Africa .
