Algeria – The president of the Professional Football League (LFP), Abdelkrim Medouar, said Thursday in Algiers, on the eve of the start of the 2018-2019 season, that the beginning of professionalism in Algeria was "twisted" and the idea of reviewing certain aspects has become a "compelling necessity to avoid an uncertain future".
"Frankly, as I said before, the beginning of professionalism in Algeria was twisted, we need to review some aspects, since it is currently experiencing a terrible regression. Know that things are going badly at the moment, because the debts of the clubs accumulate more ", alerted the guest of the forum of the National Organization of the Algerian sports journalists, organized at the press center of the Olympic complex Mohamed-Boudiaf.
"Professionalism will only be viable with the existence of financial support and sponsors. If not, he will be confronted with multiple problems that negatively influence the smooth running of the championship. "
"We need a joint commission to review professionalism. And I say that Fifa had no relation with the establishment of professionalism in Algeria. Some continue to believe that if we had not adopted professionalism in 2010, we would never have played in the African Champions League or the Confederation Cup. These are wrong things. Neighboring countries take part to this day in these competitions with amateur clubs and without sports companies, "said Medouar.
And to conclude: "In 2007 and 2008, did Algerian clubs have companies? They only had professional contracts. I would like to clarify one thing: to take part in an international competition, you only need to have a professional contract. "
