Algeria – The President of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), Aleksander Ceferin, has confirmed today, Friday 31 August in Monaco, that the VAR (Video Assistance to Arbitration) will not be used this season in the Champions League.
"There will be no VAR this season in the Champions League, says the boss of the European Confederations. When we are ready, we will do it. It will probably be next season. When we start, it will be from the play-offs, even before the group stage, "said the president of the UEFA at the microphone of the French daily L'Equipe.
Giorgio Marchetti, Deputy Secretary General and Head of UEFA's Football Division, added that the VAR in the Europa League will be operational by the 2020-2021 season, one season after its launch in C1.
