EXCLUSIVE – The ARPT prohibits religious waiting tones

Algeria – The Regulatory Authority for Post and Electronic Communications now prohibits the marketing of religious value-added services including ring tones.

This ban comes after the Ministry of Religious Affairs and wakfs has seized the ARPCE (ex-ARPT) informing it of the cancellation of all authorizations issued, in this sense, to mobile operators.

The ARPCE called, on August 7, all operators to cease "immediately" the marketing of all value-added services of a religious nature.

As a reminder, mobile phone operators proposed religious waiting rings, including suras from the Koran and "Douaa" (invocation).
